2Naturkinder Brutal 2023
Details
The first German Brutal, an absolutely incredible sip. A very rare wine from Germany's celebrated natural winemaker, 2Naturkinder, and a harvest year that our sommelier Aryn Pepper was part of and helped make. With both a personal connection and an exciting story behind the iconic Brutal labels, we are pleased to share this bottle with you.
Michael and Melanie are the duo behind 2Naturkinder, a multi-generational winemaking family dedicated to creating some of the best natural wines that can be offered from their vineyards while taking care of the ecosystems around them.
2023 was a great year for Rieslings (dry, warm, and only a touch of rain) in an area often dedicated to Sylvaner-dominant wines.
But, what are "Brutal" wines? The "Brutal" labels are open-sourced labels created by some of the natural wine movement's most iconic winemakers (Serres, Escoda, Tortul, and Pujol) when they described some definitively incredible natural wines as 'Brutal!!!' in a very positive and cheeky manner. This was initially misunderstood by the winemakers whose wines they were describing, but it then caught on as a cool way to label a wine that is entirely in alignment with the Brutal philosophy: grapes cultivated according to agroecological principles, harvested by hand, and matured without chemical or mechanical intervention. The Brutal label is often reserved for a vintage/wine that the winemaker considers to be outstanding, while meeting these principles.
Region: Franken, Germany
Grapes: Riesling
Tasting Notes: lemon drop, tangerine, tepache, guava, and a touch of petrol.
